Every year PGB organizes a few events tied to the school tradition. Two of these are:
1. THE CELEBRATION OF IMLEK (Chinese New Year)
Imlek is always celebrated in the school headquarters in Bogor. This event is to give thanks to God for all the gifts and blessings bestowed on the school and all the members. It's also a way to get together and keep good relations between the members of PGB BP.
Since 2010, during the wait for midnight, there has been an event called "Imlek Tempo Doeloe" consisting in a performance by traditional keroncong music group "Asmara".
2. PEH GWEE CAP GO
The Full Moon night was first celebrated in 1953, at a house in Gg Angbun n.79 in Bogor.
At the time, every student had to bring a round pebble that was rhen put on an altar. The pebbles were disposed in a circle, representing the strong feeling of brotherhood of the school.
The single pebbles were also a symbol of the commitment of each student to PGB.
This event happens every 15 (cap go) of the eight month (peh gwee) according to the chinese calendar. This is the closest full moon to the Earth.
Since 1970, Peh Gwee Cap Go has always been celebrated at the PGB headquarters in Bogor. Preparations start two weeks before the event: refreshing the paint on the walls in the TC, the house and the Crane Gate, decorating the TC, preparing the candles and cooking the special Peh Gwee Cap Go porridge. All preparations are done by the bouse members of PGB.
This night is an opportunity for all students to show their gratitude to Guru for all the teachings and support given.
"It's the parents' duty to take care and teach their children. But if a Guru cultivates and teaches his students, it is a noble act. Therefore, honoring one's Guru is a given act of respect". That's the point of the Full Moon celebration.
Candles are lit during the celebration:
originally they were 18 for the Pewaris Ban, 18 for the Pewaris Goan, 41 for the Warga Perguruan and one candle for each PGB branch in Indonesia and abroad.
Since 2000, it has changed to 9 candles for the Sesepuh (Elders), 9 candles for the Penasehat (Advisors), 18 candles for Dewan Guru (Guru's Council) and one candle for each PGB branch in Indonesia and abroad.
